Colossians 2:6-7 6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Life can often feel chaotic and unpredictable, pulling us in countless directions. The truth is it tends to be in periods like this that our faith is pushed while temptations and falls are all too reachable (see last conversation about grace and faithfulness). It’s in the midst of this, God calls us to live intentionally, establishing rhythms that keep us grounded in Him. Just as a tree cannot thrive without deep roots, our faith cannot flourish without steady, purposeful habits that anchor us in His presence.
God designed creation with natural rhythms—day and night, seasons, and even the rhythms of breath and heartbeat in our bodies. These patterns sustain life and provide balance. Likewise, spiritual rhythms sustain and nurture our faith, offering structure and depth to our walk with God. When we establish intentional practices of worship, prayer, rest, and service, we cultivate a rooted life.
Jesus Himself modeled purposeful rhythms. He withdrew to pray (Luke 5:16), engaged in communal worship (Luke 4:16), and regularly taught His disciples. His life was not haphazard but guided by intentionality.
NON EXHAUSTIVE List of Practical Rhythms for a Rooted Life
Daily Time with God – Setting aside time for Bible reading, prayer, and reflection keeps us spiritually nourished. Even in busy seasons, brief but consistent moments in God's Word strengthen our faith. (Try to frame this as time with a friend).
Sabbath and Rest – God commanded Sabbath for our benefit. Regular rest allows us to refocus on Him, finding renewal in His presence.
Worship as a Lifestyle – Worship is more than music; it’s a daily posture of gratitude and surrender. Whether through prayer, service, or simple acts, we can glorify God in all we do (Romans 12:1).
Community and Accountability – Walking with other believers provides encouragement and strength. Engaging in church, small groups, and deep friendships keeps us accountable and connected.
Serving Others – Jesus calls us to love and serve (Mark 10:45). Purposefully caring for others is something that we get to do that shifts our focus from self into a larger context.
When we commit to these rhythms, we find ourselves rooted, able to cling to Jesus for dear life and not let go. Challenges will come, but they will not shake our foundation when we are deeply anchored in Christ. The goal is not a rigid routine, but a lifestyle of intentional worship.
Rhythms should not become legalistic checklists but living expressions of love for God.
It’s that time, let’s wrestle out loud!
Our relationship with God is designed to flow out into the world and community around you. However, it starts between YOU and GOD, in the embrace of the loving Father but if that sounds too difficult to wrap your mind around or you have a different picture of God, truth and believe you aren’t the only one.
What rhythms in your life draw you closer to God?
What one habit can you begin or restore this week to deepen your connection with God?
